Social Norms and Social Policies in Switzerland

Public problems are the result of a normative process about social problems and their solutions. Yet the debate on classification instruments for social security regimes usually neglects the examination of this normative process. The chapter proposes a short genesis of social protection in Switzerland in order to analyse some of the norms produced by the legislator. It shows that they concern employment, citizenship, gender roles, life-course and age.
