La question de savoir si le travail social est une profession peut être abordée à travers le prisme du doctorat en travail social. En effet, ce diplôme n’existe pas partout
(comme en France, en Suisse et en Belgique par exemple) et, quand il existe, il souffre toujours d’un manque de légitimité, notamment par rapport à la sociologie. Si l’on considère que la reconnaissance d’une expertise scientifique est un gage d’existence en tant que profession, alors le travail social souffre en la matière d’un processus de reconnaissance fragile et partiel, tant que ce champ n’aura pas la légitimité pleine et entière de produire scientifiquement un savoir pour son usage professionnel. Nous proposerons de dresser un panorama des enjeux de professionnalisation du travail social, à travers l’analyse des freins et des intérêts qui se situent au coeur de la création et du développement d’un doctorat au service de ce champ professionnel.
The question to know if the social work is a profession can be approached through the prism of the doctorate in social work. Indeed, this diploma does not exist
everywhere (as in France, Switzerland and Belgium for example), and otherwise, it always suffers from a lack of legitimacy, in particular with regard to the sociology. If we consider that the gratitude of a scientific expertise is a security of existence asprofession, then the social work suffers on the subject from a partial and fragile process of gratitude, as long as this field will not have the full and whole legitimacy to produce scientifically a knowledge for its professional use. We will propose an overview of the issues of professionalization of social work, through the analysis of the brakes and interests that are found at the center of the creation and development of a PhD at the service of this professional field.
